Evaluation 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I feel that my film develops and challenges conventions of an actual media product. For example, the title of my film 'Redemption' doesn't challenge a romantic comedy however, the name outlines the plot without giving anything drastic away.
I wanted my film to resemble the film 'Saving Private Ryan' as I found it very emotional and wanted to try to re-create this emotion in the opening of my film.

Camera: I decided to use similar camera shots to begin with as I felt that this gives a very simple, but effective introduction to the protagonist. The use of the slow pan up makes it easy to see the age and the gender of the character, and at the same time not showing anyone their face in order for them to be intrigued as to what they look like. This is very similar to a typical war film

Like the film, saving private Ryan, I decided to have my title on a black background. The writing that I used was a little different however, I thought that it went very well with the voice over of my piece. I also thought that it would have more of an impact on the audience if all they could see was the title on the screen.

The costumes of the two officers are similar as they are both the smarter of the two. I decided to have the men in the army costumes as this represents them being out at war, which is similar to any normal war film.
Even though 'Saving Private Ryan' doesn't have a voice over at the beginning of the film, I feel that it only adds to the atmosphere. As I dont have the locations that a highly prestigious company would have I feel that the use of the big white gate enables the audience to use their imagination.
